WHAT IS AN ICE DAM?
An ice dam is the buildup of ice under the edge of your roof. The ice can eventually expand to your roof structure causing it to warp which leads to interior leaks, rotting soffit and roof rafters. This results in damage and costly repairs to your gutters by causing them to pull away from the fascia and buckle or collapse.
HOW CAN HEAT CABLE HELP?
Gutter Helmet® panels are manufactured to handle the heaviest of snowfalls. Homes in snowy states such as Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts prove the load-bearing capability of your panel system. Gutter Helmet Construction can install heat cable to your roof and gutters which prevents ice dams from building and gutters from freezing.
HOW DOES HEAT CABLE WORK?
Self-regulating heat cables turn on when it gets colder and turn off when it gets warmer. This keeps water from freezing and turning into solid blocks of heavy ice. This also protects against human error of forgetting about turning them on and off. Gutter Helmet's patented brackets are particularly designed to carry and conceal the heat cable. This provides a more aesthetic look (as shown below) than the standard heat cable installation (as shown to the left).
HEAT CABLE APPLICATIONS
Heat cable, sometimes referred to as heat tape, heat trace, or heat wire, can either be installed on your new Gutter Helmet® panels through the brackets, or your gutters and downspouts. In some cases, the cable can be looped with an additional run for excessive build up of ice.
